Manchester Collective are redefining the way people experience classical music.
Known for their experimental programming and daring collaborations, the work of the Collective has expanded at breakneck speed since their formation in 2016. They now play in concert halls, warehouses and factory spaces in 18 cities across Europe and the UK, performing a combination of cutting edge contemporary music, classical masterpieces, and staged theatrical work to a hungry, new audience.
New music is of vital importance to the Collective - in recent years, they have commissioned major works by Edmund Finnis, Erland Cooper, Freya Waley-Cohen and Alex Groves.

David Fennessy: Rosewoods | Sean Shibe & Manchester Collective
Scottish guitarist Sean Shibe is something of a star. Performing alongside string quartet, this artistic meeting of minds felt long overdue for the Collective.
Rosewoods is an evolution on a piece by David Fennessy, originally written to be performed by Shibe’s teacher Allan Neave in Orkney’s Italian Chapel, two wartime Nissen huts turned into an extremely ornate chapel by Italian Prisoners of War. When Shibe started playing the solo guitar version in public, Fennessy was inspired to make this bigger work for classical guitar and string quartet.
Through howls and hushes, there’s still an intimacy to this piece that evokes a meditative place.

That is really an excellent recording. I've listened to it multiple times the past few days, and I'm coming back to it. In a way, you surpassed Piccioni's original with your ensemble. I love it. Would you consider doing more of Piccioni's music? Then I have a suggestion for you: "Bolero" or another piece from the Maestro's score of "Cronaca di una morte annunciata."
